Pathways to Success Project Update

The Automotive Sector Council’s Pathways to Success is a preparation training program developed in partnership with equity-seeking groups. The program was designed to increase recruitment and retention in the Motive Power Industry while reducing barriers to entry. The pilot program has a goal to assess 5-10 candidates by December, 2022. Jobseekers with interest in the industry, with or without formal training, can be trained, assessed and certified within a few months for this entry-level position.

The Pathways to Success Program trains to meet the competencies identified in the RPL Tire and Maintenance Technician Certification program. If individuals successfully complete the assessment and recommended training online and in-person, they can be certified as Tire and Maintenance Technicians through the RPL process.

Block 1 is two to four weeks of online learning, available now, and shop training that will qualify them for employment as a Tire Technician. Block 2 will see candidates complete the second half of the learning and training in January with the opportunity to be certified as Tire and Maintenance Technicians. Candidates apply online, complete the Motive Power Career Portal Assessment and are interviewed to determine the “fit for the industry” and for work in the industry.
